On October 7th, Cascade FFA conducted their 6th annual Agricultural Safety Day at Cascade Elementary. The chapter members coordinated with the teachers and administration to present eight different workshops to 122 fourth grade students. The FFA members taught lessons on Water Safety, Lawn Care Safety and Meth Awareness. The chapter requested the help of Cascade FFA Alumni members to teach the CPR and Sun Safety lessons. Mrs. Smithson’s HOSA students presented their workshop on the Azika virus. The HOSA students will be using this presentation in competitions later this year. The Duck River Electric Company sent Mike Bain to discuss with the kids the topic of power line safety and what linemen do during their work day. His workshop included examples of potential electrical hazards and a demonstration of equipment touching power lines. The highlight for the majority of the fourth grade students was The Farm Bureau Ag in the Classroom Agricultural Simulator. The simulator allowed the students the perspective when viewed from the seat of a combine or tractor used in harvesting various crops grown in Tennessee.

The FFA had 18 members participate (14 instructors, 3 group leaders, 1 best friend, and 1 coordinator), HOSA provided six group leaders and five instructors, while, four members of the Cascade FFA Alumni participated as instructors. The chapter also elicited the help of two former participants and current fifth grade students, Laurel Cox and Mikey Lucich. Laurel and Mikey served as assistant instructors for the Water safety and the Lawn Care safety workshops.
