Several members of the Cascade FFA attended a horse judging clinic and contest at TTU on August 26.  Team members Kayla Prince, Hannah McKee, Taylor Woodcock and Abby Jennings placed 10th out of 31 teams at their first judging contest.

On August 27, the team of Kayla, Hannah, Taylor and Abby competed at the Celebration Youth Day Judging event.  This contest required the team members to give two sets of oral reasons justifying their placing. Once again, team A scored a 10th place finish that included two members scoring higher on their oral reasons than they did on their placing of the class.

The chapter also had had two teams compete in the senior non-reason division at the Celebration contest. The two teams accumulated numerous ribbons and awards, with the highlight being Darwin Reed placing 4th overall.

The horse judging team consisting of four freshman has gotten off to a great start.  They have competed in two contest and have placed tenth in both.  They will compete again on September 13, 2016 at MTSU in the State FFA Horse Judging CDE against over eighty teams from across the state.

All of the members that are competing in the horse judging contest have been taking the classroom theory and applying it to a real world situation. They are developing their decision making skills and defending these decisions. These are valuable skills that will benefit them in the future.
